Two-storey side and rear extensions to a home in Luton.
The project concerns an early c20 Lutyens-inspired semi-detached house in Luton, currently in poor condition but well-located. The aim is to extend and refurbish the house to a far higher standard, while complying with various policies in the Luton Local Plan.
The design seeks to extend as far as possible while maintaining design integrity and also percolation of natural light into what will become a deep floorpan. This is achieved by a part two, part single storey rear and side extension, with a small courtyard and rain garden to allow light through to the centre of the property. The second storey element mirrors the design approach of the original house, while the single storey extension is contemporary in character, with large glazed areas, but drawing on the original design of the house through natural timber cladding.
The project is currently in pre-application phase.
