Somers Town Conservation Area

Preparation of conservation area statement and neighbourhood plan policies in Somers Town, London.

We are currently carrying out preparatory work for the potential designation of a new conservation area in Somers Town, and advising on heritage policy in the forthcoming neighbourhood plan.

The area is significant in historic, architectural, and communal terms – but is particularly notable for its history of social housing, both in architectural terms and in the range of historic procurement and development methodologies. The conservation area designation is to focus on the legacy of social housing, while the neighbourhood plan is to define significance more broadly, including its significant community value, and focus on underrepresented and particularly working-class interpretations of heritage.

WCD is to research and prepare the conservation area statement and management strategy, which is to be submitted informally to LB Camden for consideration in 2025. If accepted the area may be designated in 2026.
