Orde Hall Street

New roof terrace to rear of Victorian terraced buildings on Orde Hall Street, Bloomsbury.

Permission for a new roof terrace and access thereto originally secured with Hugh Cullum Architects. Currently under reapplication due to expiry of implementation window.

Despite roof terraces typically being poorly viewed by local authorities, we were able to convince LB Camden that the scheme complied with their Amenity CPG. This supports roof terraces by providing outdoor space for those who may not have ready access to it, so long as concerns about overlooking are adequately addressed. We proposed perimeter planting of 600mm width and above head height to permanently screen the terrace from surrounding windows and gardens.

The terrace is surrounded by attractive views of Georgian and Victorian terraces and a diverse roofscape, peppered with chimneys and interesting roof features. Access is provided through a traditional lead-roofed and timber-clad access tower, with a new staircase internally. Fall restraint provided by bespoke steel railings.

Original permission secured in 2021 with Hugh Cullum Architects.. Cost, procurement, and acquisition advice also provided.
